My husband Doug had to clean my PICC Catheter every day. This is the line that I received my chemo drugs through.     This picture was the moment that I received the final (289th) injection! This was a celebration.

Life is a test. Nobody is meant to be perfect as the journey along the way is what makes us individually unique. While mistakes teach us how to better ourselves, illnesses teach us the fragility of human life. It teaches us how to have compassion for others as only then can we understand the pain. It teaches us to accept our family and our loved ones unconditionally, as we would expect them to accept us. It teaches us that looks and personal possessions are not who we truly are just the package that we shamelessly adorn to camouflages our true self. Life is a daily gift and it is up to us to enjoy each day regardless of its imperfections, a lesson I am currently developing.
I still struggle to get through a day without thinking of cancer, even if it is only for a moment.  The disfigured reflection I see in the mirror is a cruel and painful reminder of a time when I was whole.
I do however have a renewed inner peace and a more astute outlook on where I want life to take me. I am the driver. The ultimate decider on how I will live the rest of my life. And If I can show love and compassion while positively influencing others along the way, then I have ultimately passed life's test.
Sincerely Heather
